Our Studio

We provide architectural lighting design to architects, interior designers, art galleries, museums, manufacturers, and others who share a passion for lighting and the lit environment. While most of our work is in support of art collections and the buildings that house them, we are interested in any project that pushes the limits of creativity and design.

  • My interest in lighting started when I took my first lighting design class in college and quickly learned that ideas sketched on paper required an abundance of effort to turn into a working lighting solution. Fabricating a light fixture from scratch resulted in steel distorting due to heat and air pockets in concrete, but after a lot of finessing the final result was exciting and real.

As an architect with over 25 years design experience I’m passionate about purposeful, highly crafted & integrated design solutions. I like the way light can shape a person’s perception of space and enhance our enjoyment of our environment inside and outside.

  • With over 8 years of experience in lighting, I strive to bring a space to life through illumination. I enjoy collaborating with architects, designers, and clients to help achieve their project goals and ambitions. Through careful thought and placement, the moods and feelings that can be evoked by lighting is powerful. It’s an impressive tool that I love shaping and adapting to whatever project comes my way.

  • Around 1980 I became fascinated with lighting art but knew nothing about it, so the approach was to test every lighting fixture and technique I could find or had heard about. Thousands of paintings and sculptures, hundreds of projects and forty years later the approach is still the same. We test dozens of lighting fixtures and constantly set up mock-ups to determine the end effects of our designs.

The work has evolved from individual art objects to art collections, to the structures built as homes for the collections, and has come to include residential projects where lighting is a critical factor. Over the years the projects have become more ambitious and challenging and remain just as interesting and exciting as ever, it is this interest and excitement that remains my motivation in the world of lighting.

  • My journey into the world of lighting design began with a fascination for the interplay between light and architecture. Through thoughtful applications of lighting, even the smallest details can have the biggest impact. Enhancing the human experience and understanding how light can accentuate and transform the perception of a space are things that truly excite me.
